3 ways to encourage personal growth

As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of personal growth and development.  However, it wasn’t always that way for me.  To be completely honest with you, I had no idea what personal development even was, until I jumped into Arbonne, a home-based health and wellness business, for which I’m an Independent Consultant.  It was there that I met some of the most incredible people who have shown me that nothing in life will grow unless we ourselves grow and expand our minds.  So, I’d like to pass along a few tips that I’ve learned about growing myself, in hopes that you’ll benefit from them as well.

Tip #1: Drop the negativity & surround yourself with positive vibes only

While this may seem like an obvious thing, it’s easier said than done, especially when it involves those you’re close to.  It may come from friends or family who have been in your life forever, but who are unwilling to grow and change, and would rather remain in that negative state of mind.  While you may not have realized it before, when you choose to grow and change yourself for the better, you start to realize some of the people or things in your life that were negative and bringing you down without you even knowing it.  While it’s not always intentional negativity, it wears on you nonetheless.  Now, I’m not saying to never talk or associate with these people, especially since some may be family members, and you can’t just put them out of your life.  However, what I am saying is to really think about how and with whom you spend the majority of your time, and if that is benefiting you and your journey to become the best version of yourself, or if it’s stunting your growth.  If you desire to be the very best you can be, and to inspire others in their journey, then you need to “guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).  Don’t allow negativity to reside in your life.

Tip #2: Work harder on yourself than on anything else

What I mean by this is that if you want to actually grow yourself and expand your mind, you have to put in the time.  Furthermore, you must be patient with yourself.  Just because you decide to start growing and working on yourself doesn’t mean it’s going to happen overnight.  While you will start to see changes fairly quickly, you’re also going to have setbacks–you’re going to mess up, and that’s okay–it’s all part of the process.  Personal growth is really a life-long journey to becoming the very best version of yourself, so just keep that in mind.  And if you’re not sure where to start, pick up a book.  A few of my favorites are: On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life, Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes Into Stepping Stones for Success, and Live Love Lead: Your Best Is Yet to Come!

Tip #3: Have an accountability partner

This may very well be the most beneficial, yet the hardest thing, because having an accountability partner means you’re accountable to someone else.  It requires you to open up to them about what you desire, and to allow them to help you to see it through.  However, that doesn’t mean that you’re success or failure depends on them–it depends fully on you.  But, this is important because there will be times when you feel like giving up, times when you feel that for each step forward you take two steps back, and times when the mountain seems just too steep to climb.  And this is when you’re accountability partner will help remind you why you started this journey of personal growth in the first place; they will remind you of your goals and dreams and that it’s all worth it.  They will help you to see the bigger picture, to remind you of your vision, and to encourage you that the journey is worth it.

While this life isn’t easy, my friends, it’s worth it–YOU are worth it!  And, you’re worth the time it takes to truly grow and develop yourself, so that you can live your best life and be a light that inspires others to live their best life.  So, let’s get to work on ourselves, so that we can go out into the world and do more and be more for others!
