Yay! It’s finally here! That time of year in Michigan that all of us Michiganders dream of…summer. It’s my favorite time of year for many reasons, one of which being all the fun things we can do outside for some fitness fun. If you’re looking to shake things up in your routine, check out my 3 favorite summer fitness activities below!
Head out for a run!
For those of you who know me, you know that running is by far my favorite way to exercise! And running outside is even better. It’s so freeing and is such a stress-reliever. I put on my running playlist, lace up my favorite shoes, and hit the road! (p.s. Brooks running shoes are my go-to shoe for everything. They’re so comfy and offer incredible support.) So, grab a friend or put on your tunes, and head out for a fun run! And, if you’re really feeling it, sign up for the Detroit Free Press 1/2 or Full Marathon, which takes place on October 21, 2018. Get all the details here!
Bike around with friends!
If you’re not much of a runner, try biking! It’s another great way to get outside and get some exercise. And, it’s a fun thing to do with a group of friends! If you live around Detroit, be sure to check out Slow Roll! It’s a super fun community bike outing to participate in. Check out their 2018 schedule here.
Get in the water!
Aside from running, this may be my other favorite, simply because you’re out in the open water and away from everything else. Furthermore, the lakes actually aren’t frozen over anymore! For those of you from Northern Michigan, like myself, you know exactly what I’m talking about. But, whether you want to swim, kayak or canoe, or even paddle board, being out on the water does something for not only your physical health, but also your mental health. It really helps clear your mind and give you a new perspective and outlook on life.
If you enjoy all three activities, why not sign up for a triathlon?! The Motor City Triathlon is Sunday, June 24th. More details can be found here. And, if you’re interested in signing up for any kind of race–1/2 marathon, full marathon, triathlon, or something else–be sure to head on over to Active, and check out all the events in your area.
Have a happy, healthy, fun-filled summer!
xoxo,
miranda kay
